Ho intrapreso questo progetto sui gesti e sui riti della fede pensando alle molte comunità religiose sparse sul territorio nazionale.
Tutte le religioni hanno in comune il sentimento di trascendenza, che si manifesta in modi diversi, a seconda della provenienza geografica e culturale delle persone che lo professano. In tutte le realtà visitate il raccoglimento attorno al sentimento divino era percepibile in maniera evidente e il suo manifestarsi oscillava continuamente tra il desiderio di intimità e il sentimento di felicità panico. La religiosità di queste comunità, poi, è indissolubilmente legata al fatto di essere comunità straniere. Il senso religioso si lega infatti tangibilmente al sentimento di sradicamento, all’identità ricostuita in un paese lontano. Nelle preghiere dei ganesi, ad esempio, ho percepito spesso questa dualità: il fedele si sente chiamato ad aiutare la famiglia originaria e la famiglia acquisita in Italia. La chiesa italiana diventa la chiesa universale, e i singoli individui possono manifestare la fede liberamente: essa prende forma sia in un capannone industriale, sia nella piccola sala di un centro sociale per anziani.
The raising number of different religious communities scattered throughout the country inspired me to start this project about gestures and rites in different faiths. All religions have in common the feeling of transcendence, manifesting itself in different ways, depending on people's geographical and cultural origin. Gathering around the divine was a feeling perceptible in all communities I visited in a very clear manner. This feeling varied from the desire for intimacy to the feeling of happiness. The religiousness of these communities, is inextricably linked to being foreign communities. It tangibly binds to rootlessness and to rebuild an identity a foreign country. In Ghanaian's prayers, for example, I often felt this duality: the believer is called to help both the original family and the one acquired in Italy. The Italian church becomes the universal one, and each individual feels free to express their faith freely: faith can become alive in an industrial warehouse as well as in a small room of an elderly community centre.
